Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update – 18 March 2020

Dear all, I appreciate that recent times with the pandemic of COVID-19 has been an extremely difficult period for you everyone, personally and professionally.   So I am writing to inform you that we, at Carney’s Community, are taking it extremely seriously and are constantly assessing the risk, along with assessing the risk of the other factors that impact on some of our participants (eg stress, mental health, physical health and abuse).   We also have to prepare for the fact that we will undoubtedly be short staffed in coming weeks, with the possibility of them showing symptoms and self isolating as well as child care issues, should schools close.  With all this in mind, our current plan, with regards to sessions is: Community Boxing sessions (Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings and Saturday lunch time), for the time being, will go on as usual.  Participants will be stopped at the door and screened […]

Comedy Night – Venue Change

The venue for our comedy night has changed to The Bedford Pub, 77 Bedford Hill, Balham, SW12 9HD. For just £50 (+ booking fee) we have a fabulous line up of comedians to keep you laughing all evening as you enjoy plentiful refreshments, kindly provided by Savills. When: Wednesday 22nd January. Once the donation, twice the punch!

On the 3rd of December, we here at Carney’s will be launching our Christmas Challenge via the Big Give where we will have until the 10th of December at 12pm to raise £12,000 online, to help us carry on our essential work with some of the most disadvantaged members of our community.  All donations will be matched by our supporter’s at The Childhood Trust. When words fail, music speaks

The music studio is up and running at Carney’s with new added sessions on the timetable: Monday: 6.30- 8.00 pmTuesday: 4.00- 5.00 pmWednesday: 6.30- 8.00 pmThursday: 4.00- 5.00 pm This has been a great success amongst the participants, who are thoroughly enjoying getting connected with music! Carney’s Community Tutoring Project – ‘Each one, teach one’

Academic year of 2019- 2020 We want to help support our participants with an equality of opportunities within their educational achievements- to help to close the attainment gaps by means such as 1-2-1 tutoring support for our young people on low incomes, and through providing equipment for them to study with. Carney’s Community is looking for Chief Operations Officer to help us move into our next exciting phase. Carney’s Community has undergone a period of huge change over the last six years. Originally based in Fitzroy lodge boxing club, we moved into our current premises – the Carney’s Community Centre – in 2013. This has allowed us to expand our activities and grow our presence, as well as significantly expanding our funding base. This expansion now requires a capable operations and finance lead to support the Chief Executive Officer into the next exciting phase of Carney’s Community’s development. After a period of significant expansion we are entering a consolidation phase, aiming to improve the effectiveness of our internal systems and processes, the capabilities of our team, and ultimately the quality of our impact on the young people we work with.
