Welcome to Carney’s Community Newsletter!Over the past month, we have been busy engaging in a multitude of activities within the community and are incredibly grateful to our supporters and staff who have all collectively helped us to make a difference. The boxing and fit and fed youth club sessions have been going strong throughout the Summer holidays. We had Cruiser Weight World Champion, Lawrence Okolie, come down to meet the participants and train alongside them. We celebrated the achievements of some of our participants in the boxing sessions, a huge well done to all of them for their hard work! We had four young people qualify as Eye Lash Extension Technicians at a course run at Carney’s, with AIM High and Gold Beautique. We ran boxing sessions at the annual Nicholas Stewart Project activity day, run to celebrate the life of Nicholas (one of our participants), who was sadly murdered in […]

Savills Thank You

It’s through the support of local businesses like Savills that Carney’s can continue to do their vital and impactful work within the local community. After serving the area for 30 years, Savills opened a dedicated Northcote Road estate and letting agents to add deeper local knowledge to broaden Savills strengths in addition to the coverage already provided by nearby sister offices in Clapham, Wandsworth and Battersea. In short, Savills are thrilled to support a charity that works within the areas they serve.

July 2022

Welcome to Carney’s Community Newsletter! We hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the lovely weather! Over the past month, we have been busy working with our community and on building improvements, so would like to thank you for your continued support, which allows us to continue our work. We were fortunate to have 2 x British Boxing Champion, Denzel Bentley, down to talk to and work with the participants. My name is Lizzie Takyi-Akyaa and I am the new Lead Youth Worker at Carney’s Community. This post is an exciting and humbling opportunity to make positive and long-lasting changes in the lives of the youth in my community. As a Ghanaian woman, born and bred on a South London council estate, I have a vested interest in the social capital of our young people in society. Although I do not have a traditional background in youth and community […]

June 2022

Welcome to Carney’s Community Newsletter! It’s been an inspiring, joyous and at times challenging few months for Carney’s Community. As always, we are very grateful for your continued support which allows us to continue on with our work. Please read on to find out about what’s been going on… This year the Big Give appeal runs from Tuesday 14th to Tuesday 21st June and it’s our most ambitious appeal yet! We have received a generous pledge from our sponsor St Philip’s School of £6000 which has already been matched by The Childhood Trust giving us an incredible matched funding pot of £12000! So, we are looking for donors who will contribute to this appeal aiming to reach a total of £12,000 from donations during the week, every penny of which will then be matched with our pledge funds. If successful, this will give us a total fund of £24,000! This will help hugely in our […]

The Big Give: Carney’s Youth Crime Prevention Programme

Children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have suffered more than most during the covid-19 pandemic. We’ve seen them miss out on education, suffer with their mental health due to isolation, worry and grief, and endure more domestic abuse and increased poverty. This winter, we’re starting to see the impact of a number of factors – furlough has ended, and the universal credit uplift removed, and now with rising prices, the situation for vulnerable young people is likely to get even worse. All this has the potential to leave a lifelong impact on young people, unless we intervene. We are seeing the need for more intensive work with young people in the aftermath of the pandemic. Particularly for those who’ve been involved in the criminal justice system already, or with social services because of problems at home. Coming to Carney’s, young people have a source of consistent, non-judgemental support; they […]
