Dear Community,

Welcome to our final newsletter of 2022, we would like to thank each of you for your continued support throughout the year which has enabled us to continue doing the work that we love.

We hope you have a joyful end to the year and look forward to seeing you all in the new year 2023!

Carney’s were delighted to have Benedict Cumberbatch, the world leading actor and three time Laureus World Sports Awards host down to meet some of our staff and brilliant young people. It was a great opportunity to connect, share our life experiences and inspire one another! #SportForGood.

We have been nominated for the Charity Film Awards, for our Carney’s Community film: https://vimeo.com/773270442/cf61eba66a

‘Carney’s is an extraordinary community charity that supports kids from underprivileged areas in South London. Firstly, they’re a boxing gym, but in reality, they’re so much more. Providing work, support, mentorship, a hot meal, and much needed hope. This film was to help raise funds and awareness, allowing them to keep going. It was made possible through the Mother Brown Promise fund’.

Due to essential maintenance work, from the 3rd – 17th January we will be getting our gym floor replaced. Therefore, we unfortunately need to cancel our regular sessions but will be providing training for those most in need. Participants can contact us if they are desperate to train and we will see if we can arrange something, prioritising the most vulnerable. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause but are excited to have everyone back after the 17th of January to enjoy the new gym floor!

Read the latest article on one of our participants, Lewis Clark, who has gone from strength to strength over the past few months:

‘Lewis launched a YouTube channel in April 2022 called Gymbarz, where he posts work-out videos, short interviews with ex-offenders and documentaries with influential people. He is also active on Instagram posting motivational and inspiring content as he rebuilds his life away from crime’.
