Many of you will be aware that the restrictions relating to COVID 19 have started to ease. With this in mind, we have been risk assessing all of our activities, in line with information from the National Youth Agency, Government guidance and England Boxing. We have been told that we can open the gym from the 25th July and that we can open the centre to deliver youth work activities. However, there are still stringent requirements around numbers, social distancing, track and trace and PPE, so now is not the time to return to our normal running of sessions.

So for this reason we will be bringing our staff back from Furlough on the 3rd August, to ensure we can have some provision over the Summer Holidays. We will be opening the gym on Monday the 27th July, for small group, pre-booked boxing sessions. These will take place in “bubbles” and any mentored participants will be contacted by coaches to arrange this. If you would like to be in one of these bubbles and are not a mentored participant, then please contact our lead coach Giz, on 07881931194, giz@carneyscommunity.wpsc.site or (Instagram) @carneyscoaches (please be aware that whilst we will be running social enterprise sessions with Carney’s Coaches, priority of space and use of the gym will go to our current participants).

However, we have also decided to continue to deliver our core, community boxing fitness sessions, outdoors, in York Gardens (Lavender Rd, Battersea, London SW11 2UG) on a trial basis. The reason for this is that it reduces the risk around spreading Covid-19 and gives us the option to keep those sessions open for participants to “drop in”, without booking. This has already started with drop in youth boxing, at York Gardens, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30-6:30pm. From the 3rd August, we will be adding the adult drop in session to run every Monday and Wednesday from 7-8pm.

Carney’s Coaches will continue to provide, pre-booked, social enterprise boxing fitness sessions in Battersea Park every Tuesday and Thursday 5-6 and one to one, paid personal training sessions can be arranged by contacting our lead coach Giz, on 07881 931194, giz@carneyscommunity.wpsc.site or (Instagram) @carneyscoaches. All sessions will require participants/clients to follow a strict code of conduct to ensure safety and reduce the risk of spreading Coronavirus.

During the Summer holidays we will be providing youth work activities, such as bike workshops, t-shirt printing, fitness camp etc to a limited number of participants, with strict social distancing rules in place.

Other current sessions that we will continue are:

  • Zoom cooking sessions will continue every Thursday at 6pm
  • Daily Outreach, detached youth work
  • Carney’s Conversations every Sunday at 7pm
  • One to one and small group mentoring
  • Food deliveries However, we will stop our online virtual boxing sessions from 27th July, as these will be replaced by “real” boxing sessions. We will constantly be assessing and reviewing this situation and the above activities and will update people as and when plans change. The aim is still to get all sessions back running at the centre, as was pre Covid-19. Please continue to ensure you and your families follow the government guidelines.

I will send further updates as and when is necessary and can be contacted on 02072280506 or at george[@]carneyscommunity.wpsc.site. If you would like to be updated via our newsletter please sign up via the section on the right of this page. We will also be updating situations on our Instagram story, as well as access to online work outs on Instagram.

Many thanks,

George Turner
