Posh Boy doc

Check out @poshboydoc on Instagram for some teaser trailer footage of a film that they are creating. It follows both Carney’s Community and Fitzroy Lodge boxer’s journey in the sport.  Like the whole film industry, we thought our own production work had to stop. This included a new documentary that we have been filming.  Posh Boy captures the lives of young, aspiring boxers from London’s inner- city boroughs. It is a portrait of struggle and aspiration against the odds. But, this pandemic poses a serious challenge to the community at the heart of Posh Boy.  In these unusual circumstances, and to help this community under threat, we have decided to share some of our existing film material with you. We will then go on to capture this story through the testing weeks ahead, using whatever means our technologies make safely possible.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update – 20 April 2020

Dear all, As the recent lockdown extension demonstrates, the situation with COVID-19 is ever moving and so we are continually risk assessing and trying to fit our work and responses to what the immediate needs and requirements are for our community.  This has sadly meant we have had to close the centre to the public and all staff are working from home, but rest assured, we are still supplying a service and support to our participants. In assessing the risk we are having daily updates on the national situation; following government guidelines on things like the lockdown and social isolation; holding weekly virtual meetings with partners; weekly team meetings and weekly management meetings to ensure we have all the correct up to date information and access to support for the participants that are most in need.  On a more personal level our coaches, key workers and mentors are all in […]

We Need Your Help

We’re living through a global crisis which has affected almost every part of our daily lives.  For the young people we work with at Carney’s Community, already chaotic lives have suddenly turned upside down. Many of these young people are living with a number of problems, including neglect, violence at home, mental or physical health issues, disability, drug/ alcohol abuse, family breakdown and abuse. Being unable to leave their homes for long periods will intensify these problems and make already difficult home situations worse.  Their visits to Carney’s Community have in the past provided the extra support many of them so badly need. So now, despite a huge drop in donations and other income, we’re doing our best to adapt, and continue our vital work. WE’RE STILL HERE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE We’re responding to this crisis by redesigning our services to continue doing what we do, even while our centre […]

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update – 19 March 2020

Dear all, We posted an update regarding the pandemic of COVID-19 yesterday.  However, as I am sure you can appreciate, this is an every evolving issue and we have had to make changes already.  As previously stated we, at Carney’s Community, are taking the issue of COVID-19 extremely seriously and are constantly assessing the risk, along with assessing the risk of the other factors that impact on some of our participants (eg stress, mental health, physical health and abuse).   We also have to prepare for the fact that we are already short staffed due to people self-isolating and not wanting those increase their risk of infection.  With all this in mind, our current plan, with regards to sessions is: Community Boxing sessions (Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings and Saturday lunch time), will all be placed on hold for the moment, so will not take place until further notice Carney’s Coaches (Tuesday […]
