On the 2nd March we held another Fitzroy Lodge Amateur Boxing Club open boxing show. We saw some great performances, including our very own Timothy, making his debut and winning with a second round stoppage. The boxing was so good, that it was covered in March’s Boxing News. Giz ran another girls only Boxers ToolKit over the half term, with a great turn out of the Carney’s young women. In partnership with Performance Plus and Inclusive Futures, we delivered another successful Gym instructor level 2 course, with all 9 attendees qualifying. Some will be joining us for paid work experience and others plan to go onto their personal training qualification. Cyprian was welcomed back to the Wimbledon Foundation, following his last appearance, as the person who did the coin toss for the men’s final last year. He got up and presented to 250 guests, at their annual reception. […]

Read MoreWe are grateful to our neighbours at Battersea Place who have been fundraising for us all year. This was demonstrated by the art and photography exhibition we put on together, featuring some amazing pieces of work. It was a great event, and we were proud of all our volunteers on the day. Over the 6 weeks holidays we have been running extra sessions and will be running 2 weeklong boot camps. One is the Boxer’s Toolkit (females only), which was developed by our lead coach, Giz. It is a program that teaches transferrable skills, through the medium of boxing. It has already been tried and tested with schools, including two Pupil Referral Units and this Summer we are focusing it on our female participants. The other was the Week of the Warrior, where we run a weeklong program that involves a variety of sport and martial arts. Whilst we have the […]
Read MoreWe would like to welcome our newest member of the team, Mark who is a full-time key worker and with him as a new addition, our capacity to offer key work support to participants has increased massively. We had a very busy Easter holiday period, with a variety of activities, such as our usual boxing sessions, cooking and a games day. For our cookery workshop, we were lucky enough to have Folk living lend us their community kitchen where we took a group of 15 young people to learn to prepare and cook meals from all over the world including Italy, America, India, Mexico and France. Congratulations to our Head Coach, Giz, who won coach of the year at Enable’s Active Wandsworth Awards in March. He beat a number of other strong contenders and was awarded the prize due to the hundreds of boxing fitness sessions he has run in the […]
Read MoreWe were devastated to hear that one of our participants and volunteers, Josh, sadly lost his life in November. He was one of the most kind hearted people we ever met. Always sticking up for people that got bullied; always happy to see you; always keen to help and give support. A family man, with a strong set of morals who would do anything for those close to him. A big motivation and inspiration to why we set up Carney’s and integral to both building and shaping what we do. Not to mention the amount of volunteering he did with things like our boxing shows, events and clearing out the building when we first got it. Loved by many, he will be missed and will continue to inspire. We would like to say a big thankyou to Maria’s Fish and Kebab shop for supporting Carney’s, who have now provided over 60 meals for […]
