We would like to welcome our newest member of the team, Mark who is a full-time key worker and with him as a new addition, our capacity to offer key work support to participants has increased massively. We had a very busy Easter holiday period, with a variety of activities, such as our usual boxing sessions, cooking and a games day. For our cookery workshop, we were lucky enough to have Folk living lend us their community kitchen where we took a group of 15 young people to learn to prepare and cook meals from all over the world including Italy, America, India, Mexico and France. Congratulations to our Head Coach, Giz, who won coach of the year at Enable’s Active Wandsworth Awards in March.  He beat a number of other strong contenders and was awarded the prize due to the hundreds of boxing fitness sessions he has run in the […]

February Newsletter

We were devastated to hear that one of our participants and volunteers, Josh, sadly lost his life in November. He was one of the most kind hearted people we ever met. Always sticking up for people that got bullied; always happy to see you; always keen to help and give support. A family man, with a strong set of morals who would do anything for those close to him. A big motivation and inspiration to why we set up Carney’s and integral to both building and shaping what we do.  Not to mention the amount of volunteering he did with things like our boxing shows, events and clearing out the building when we first got it. Loved by many, he will be missed and will continue to inspire. We would like to say a big thankyou to Maria’s Fish and Kebab shop for supporting Carney’s, who have now provided over 60 meals for […]

Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023

Double your donation to Carney’s Community in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge. Carney’s are taking part in the Christmas Challenge to raise £18,000 in just 1 week! These funds will be used for our youth work and mentoring project, providing young people with a safe space, free hot meals and mentors who understand the challenges the young people are facing. Donations to Carney’s will be generously matched by the Childhood Trust and our pledgers during the campaign, meaning your money can support twice as many young people. Our match funders have offered to fund up to £9,000 in donations, so we need to raise £9,000 in online donations through the big give campaign to access this. We hope that everyone will give generously to help us reach our target and enable us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about. How can you get involved? ● Visit […]

October Newsletter

We are delighted to announce that the two consortiums we are a part of, Battersea Alliance and Youth Battersea, won awards at the Houses of Parliament yesterday, for the “Collaboration Project” and “Youth Project”. Ahmed was referred over to us by the Youth Justice Service 2.5 years ago following an exclusion from school and an incident with police. There was a slightly rocky start, but he soon focused on personal development, education, and boxing. He went on to complete his GCSE’s, qualify as a gym instructor and has been volunteering for us for the last 12 months. He is currently doing paid work experience with us and last month we celebrated his success with an award of his own pads, a bike to help him get to and from the gym and a list of quotes from staff and participants. We are excited to announce that Carney’s will be hosting […]

Thank You For Making Our Summer Brighter

Carney’s Community is beyond grateful to those who donated and shared our fundraising appeal, as this has enabled us to successfully reach and surpass our Big Give campaign target, raising an amazing £21,218.75! “It’s a good place to get fit, be more active and sort out any issues you may have, and it’s also a place you can go to if u need help.” It is through such generosity that we can continue our work and bring about positive changes in our community. The funds raised will go towards our core work of supporting disadvantaged and excluded young people through our mentoring and activity programmes. This work helps our participants to: Build self-discipline, self-esteem, and confidence. Improve life skills and employability. Reduce offending, re-offending and anti-social behaviour. “It’s helped me with my confidence and with keeping friendships with my friends. It also helped with my anger and with keeping it too […]
