October Newsletter

We are delighted to announce that the two consortiums we are a part of, Battersea Alliance and Youth Battersea, won awards at the Houses of Parliament yesterday, for the “Collaboration Project” and “Youth Project”. Ahmed was referred over to us by the Youth Justice Service 2.5 years ago following an exclusion from school and an incident with police. There was a slightly rocky start, but he soon focused on personal development, education, and boxing. He went on to complete his GCSE’s, qualify as a gym instructor and has been volunteering for us for the last 12 months. He is currently doing paid work experience with us and last month we celebrated his success with an award of his own pads, a bike to help him get to and from the gym and a list of quotes from staff and participants. We are excited to announce that Carney’s will be hosting […]

Thank You For Making Our Summer Brighter

Carney’s Community is beyond grateful to those who donated and shared our fundraising appeal, as this has enabled us to successfully reach and surpass our Big Give campaign target, raising an amazing £21,218.75! “It’s a good place to get fit, be more active and sort out any issues you may have, and it’s also a place you can go to if u need help.” It is through such generosity that we can continue our work and bring about positive changes in our community. The funds raised will go towards our core work of supporting disadvantaged and excluded young people through our mentoring and activity programmes. This work helps our participants to: Build self-discipline, self-esteem, and confidence. Improve life skills and employability. Reduce offending, re-offending and anti-social behaviour. “It’s helped me with my confidence and with keeping friendships with my friends. It also helped with my anger and with keeping it too […]

June 2023

Carney’s would like to formerly welcome our new Lead Keyworker Layla, who joined Carney’s in March 2023 after having spent the last year studying for an MSc in Youth and Community Work, whilst working as a Youth Worker in Westminster. Layla has experience working in a range of industries including retail, health and fitness, and personal care. A large part of her ten-year career as a hairdresser involved mentoring young apprentices in their transition from education to the world of employment which she found to be hugely rewarding, witnessing the growth in confidence, and seeing the developing of skill sets through their difficult journeys from apprentice to junior stylist. This encouraged her to seek a more prominent role working with higher risk young people in need of further support. Layla also values the importance of fitness regarding both physical and personal development which is what attracted her to the safe space […]

October 2022

Welcome to Carney’s Community Newsletter! Over the past couple of months, we have been busy working with our community, enjoying new experiences, and celebrating one another’s achievements. Read on to find out more…. With the launch of Battersea Power Station, we took part in the opening ceremony and also ran a boxing fitness session alongside Adidas and the Cruiser Weight British Champion, Richard Riakporhe, at the Adidas Empower Station, inside the new shopping centre.  We got 10 of our boxers to show off their skills and train alongside 10 members of the public, which drew in a big crowd! Congratulations to Aseal, Ahmed, and El-Fatih for completing the Bike Workshop programme. Throughout they showed their dedication by arriving promptly each week, working hard, and showing great enthusiasm! As a reward, they each earned a bike and are very proud of their accomplishments. Well done all. We were very proud to see our […]
