Carney’s Community are proud winners of the ‘Partner of the year’ Award from London Community Rehabilitation Company. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that contributed to this win – staff, volunteers, participants and supporters.

Some of boxing’s biggest names descended on our partner club, Fitzroy Lodge ABC tonight, for a publicity event. Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Britain’s biggest Heavyweight prospect (and Olympic gold medal winner) Anthony Joshua mixed with Carney’s staff and participants.

Thanks to all those that came to our launch night on 12th January. It was a great success! Carney’s Community is very proud to be running this centre right in the heart of Battersea, and it was brilliant to see so many faces, new and old, at the launch.

Carney’s Community is proud of the lasting impact our work has on the lives of young people. We’ve just published a new case study about Giz, who discovered that boxing gave him an attractive escape from a hopeless life of crime. Giz has since set up a boxing programme for other young people from disadvantaged backgrounds – a worthwhile endeavour doing something he loves: teaching boxing! Read more here …

A number of Carney’s Community participants are looking to set up their own social enterprise businesses. Not only are these participants looking to set up their own money making ideas, they are keen to incorporate a way to help other young, disadvantaged people in the community, and keep the good work of Carney’s going through their own projects. At the moment they are all looking for funding for their ideas and projects, and we would like to help them achieve the necessary requirements to set up their community projects in partnership with Carney’s Community.

Carney’s is currently recruiting for a ‘centre manager’ for the new premises we will soon be moving into! The ideal candidate will have experience in youth work and/or working with young adults and will take overall responsibility for the management of ‘The Centre’, an exciting new space we will be taking over in September.

Carney’s Community Co-founder, George Turner, has been nominated for the South London Press “Our Heroes Award”. The nomination was to recognise the years of voluntary work that George has dedicated to the young people of Wandsworth and Lambeth.

Mark Reigate, Carney’s Community and Fitzroy Lodge ABC’s Head Coach, was nominated for the Coach of the Year award at the 2012 London Sport & Physical Activity Awards.
