
We’re recruiting! Carney’s Community is looking for a Chief Operating Officer (Maternity Cover) to join our management team and help lead the day-to-day running of the charity while we continue supporting some of the most disadvantaged young people in London.
This is a senior role covering fundraising, HR, finance oversight, facilities and administration — a real opportunity to make an impact in a high-energy, high-impact youth charity in Battersea.
The Chief Operating Officer role at a glance
- Contract: 6-month fixed term (with possible extension)
- Hours: 30 hours per week (0.8 FTE), including occasional evening work
- Salary: £45,000–£55,000 FTE, dependent on experience
- Location: Hybrid — minimum 2 days per week at 30 Petworth Street, Battersea, SW11 4QW, plus flexible working
- Earliest start: 1 December 2026

What you’ll do
Reporting to the CEO and leading the operations team, you’ll oversee all fundraising (campaigns, major donors and grant applications), lead the charity’s HR, share responsibility for finance alongside the CEO and Finance Officer, and manage the Facilities Manager and Administrator to keep everything running smoothly and compliantly.
About you
- A degree or demonstrable relevant professional experience
- Senior-level operational management experience, ideally in the charity or not-for-profit sector
- At least one year’s experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector
- A track record of managing staff teams, with up-to-date HR knowledge
- Successful fundraising experience, particularly from charitable trusts and individuals
