As you will see, we have had a very busy and productive summer as we packed in as much as we could over the long holiday …
Portable Boxing Ring
Throughout the summer, we have been taking our portable boxing ring to different festivals and areas to provide fun and activity for the local community, as well as a chance for us to exhibit what we do at our centre. This photo is from our visit to Henry Prince Estate where we now run weekly sessions for the community.
Bike Workshop
A big highlight of our summer was putting on a Bike Workshop in early August. This was part of the Wandsworth Summer Pick N Mix Programme. Three bike mechanics worked with our young people to fix up 30 bikes which had been donated to Carney’s over the past months. After fixing and customising the bikes, the young people were able to take their bikes home.
Come Dine With Me
Our young people hosted a Come Dine With Me evening in August at the London Cooking Project. They cooked three courses, provided entertainment and created some wonderful decorations to ensure it was a memorable evening for all involved.
Summer Trips
We went on several trips this summer, including Go Ape, Flip Out and Lee Valley White Water Centre. Our Lead Youth Worker, Rory, took some of our young people to stay at a farm in Devon for a week (see below). This was a joint trip with other local youth centres and the trip provided many new experiences for the young people such as rock-pooling, kayaking, drumming workshops and walking on Dartmoor.
