Meet the Team | Carney’s Community

George Turner

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder

George has worked for 24 years for both local government and voluntary agencies, engaging disadvantaged young people and their families. He is qualified in sociology and criminology and has specialisms in working with gang work, youth justice and child protection. As CEO George leads the vision of the organisation, leads on partnerships with local organisations, manages the staff team and continues to do key work with some of our most vulnerable young people and adults.

Mark Reigate

Fitzroy Lodge and Co-Founder

Mark is an ex-boxer with over 100 amateur bouts under his belt. He has been working as a boxing coach with young people for many years. He is currently Head Coach at Fitzroy Lodge Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) and oversees Carney’s Community work based at Fitzroy Lodge.

Hannah Tulloch

Chief Operating Officer

Hannah has 16 years’ experience working in the charity sector, including 5 years as CEO of a London based Community Charity. She is qualified Voluntary Sector Management, Charity Accounts and Human Resource Management. Hannah is responsible for the funding, finance, facilities and HR of the organisation.

Giz Chu

Head Boxing Coach

Giz is an England Boxing affiliated and qualified Boxing Coach with 10 years’ experience working with disadvantaged young people and coaching boxing. Giz oversees our coaching staff team and all of our weekly boxing sessions.

Layla Madkour

Lead Key Worker

Layla is a qualified youth worker and counsellor with 5 year’s experience working with disadvantaged young people. Layla heads up our key work programme, providing key work for young people herself and managing the team of key workers who support around 50 young people each year.

Michael Petiafo

Lead Youth Worker

Michael has 20 years’ experience in the youth sector, specialising in a trauma-informed programmes. He has expertise in project management and working with neurodiverse individuals. Michael manages the youth team and leads the youth programme of activities including youth club, fit & fed and bike workshop.

Alice Jhugroo

Employment Support Lead

Alice has 10 years’ experience supporting disadvantaged people in charities, including mentoring, keywork, facilities management and managing an education provision. She has qualifications in wellbeing and mentoring and a degree in Education. Alice manages our newest project, Employment Support, upskilling participants, removing barriers to accessing employment and supporting participants that have been employed by us to progress into fulfilling, long term careers.

Our highly skilled and experienced office based team enables all of our work to continue, they undertake the vital work of managing finances, administration and facilities.

Coaches

Most of our coaches came to Carney’s as young people, taking part in the regular boxing sessions, then progressing to volunteers, showing their commitment to Carney’s and support for other young people. All of our coaches complete personal training or boxing coaching qualifications and support the delivery of our sessions, support with Power of Boxing sessions and offer personal training. More information about personal training and sessions open to the public can be found here.

Youth Workers

Many of our youth workers previously received support from Carney’s as young people and now support the running of the youth boxing sessions, Fit & Fed, youth club and bike workshop. Our youth work team come from a range of backgrounds and work hard to support the young people as best they need, often being the listening ear they need.

Key Workers

In addition to Lead Key Worker, Layla, and CEO, George’s, time providing key work to young people, we also have 3 additional highly experienced key workers. They support young people facing the most challenging circumstances. They offer a strength based approach, identifying with those they are supporting what goals they want to achieve and the steps needed to achieve them, in turn moving them away from negative behaviours and influence.

Trustees

Charles Gibson

Chair of Trustees

Charles is a practicing barrister in civil and commercial law. He has been a Queen’s Counsel and a Recorder of the Crown Court since 2001. He is head of Henderson Chambers and an accredited Mediator. He is also a keen boxer.

Tom Fitzgerald

Treasurer & Company Secretary

Tom is a private equity investor. Prior to this, he worked in various mergers & acquisitions and strategic advisory roles at Morgan Stanley and Evercore. He also represented Fitzroy Lodge Boxing Club as a light heavyweight.

Shay Chohan

Trustee

Shay has a degree in Management from Cass Business School and has experience in training, organizational development, and business consultancy.

Paul Delaney

Trustee

Paul is the COO at Positive Money, a research and campaign organization focusing on reform of the money and banking system. Previously Paul worked for six years at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR). He has expertise in charity governance, operations, finance, fundraising, and public affairs.

Greg Jones

Trustee

Greg worked in Public Relations for twenty years, on some of the world’s biggest brands. In addition, he is a qualified psychotherapist and volunteered at an HIV charity for ten years.

Rebecca Smith

Trustee

Rebecca trained as a Probation Officer and worked for over 20 years with young people and adults impacted by the justice system. She now works for the Anna Freud Centre, a mental health charity, delivering training to professionals to improve systems of care for vulnerable people. She also runs a social enterprise called the A.I.M. High Project, which delivers skills and personal development programmes to disadvantaged young adults.

Charles Sackey

Trustee

Charlie is a Social Care Practitioner with over 30yrs experience of working with children who are looked after by the local authority and the professional networks supporting the child’s care. Charlie is a local resident who attended the youth club at the centre which is now Carney’s.

Puja Nayar

Trustee

Puja is a qualified youth worker with over 20 years’ experience working in youth justice. She is currently operations manager for Wandsworth Youth Justice Service.
