Welcome to Carney’s Community Newsletter!

Over the past couple of months, we have been busy working with our community, enjoying new experiences, and celebrating one another’s achievements.

Read on to find out more….

With the launch of Battersea Power Station, we took part in the opening ceremony and also ran a boxing fitness session alongside Adidas and the Cruiser Weight British Champion, Richard Riakporhe, at the Adidas Empower Station, inside the new shopping centre.  We got 10 of our boxers to show off their skills and train alongside 10 members of the public, which drew in a big crowd!
Congratulations to Aseal, Ahmed, and El-Fatih for completing the Bike Workshop programme. Throughout they showed their dedication by arriving promptly each week, working hard, and showing great enthusiasm!

As a reward, they each earned a bike and are very proud of their accomplishments. Well done all.

We were very proud to see our volunteer coach, Ibs, win the England Boxing London Amateur championship and progress to the semi-finals of the England Boxing development Amateur Championships. We are all wishing him good luck for the semi-finals and finals on the weekend of the 22nd October.
Carney’s delivered a team building Boxing Fitness session, for MP Marsha de Cordova and her team!
A number of our staff members appeared in a film by the local authority to highlight inspirational local people for Black History Month.  We also have several events we are taking part in over the holidays to celebrate black culture (although we are somewhat frustrated and confused as to why most schools do not have Black History on their Curriculum for A levels and GCSE’s).
We had Hard Hitterz come down to one of the boxing sessions to get the participants to compete on their punching machine to see how much power they could muster up. It was great fun and created a real buzz, we hope to have them back down again soon.
 The Big Give

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be taking part in the Big Give 2022 Christmas Challenge! Every donation made to our campaign from 29th November- 6th December will be doubled! We’ll be aiming to raise £20,000 for our work, and as we start to see increased demand due to the cost of living crisis, and particularly for our food programme, the funds raised from this appeal will be vital to ensure we can meet demand and support the families who are hardest hit this winter. Save the date and double your donation! https://donate.thebiggive.org.uk/campaign/a056900002NDovCAAT

Our wonderful supporters have been busy with a range of active challenges, raising much-needed funds for Carney’s Community. All these fundraisers are ongoing so it’s not too late to catch up on their progress and support their brilliant efforts!
