Carney’s Community Attends US Ambassador’s Black History Month Reception
Many thanks to the United States’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom for inviting Carney’s Community to a reception at his home, to celebrate and remember Muhammad Ali during black history month.
Dressed up in our glad rags, the team had a great time networking and meeting the other guests, enjoying speeches from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the Ambassador himself, as well as a performance from Tinchy Strider!
Clink Restaurant Meal Supporting Carney’s Community
A big thanks to all those over at the Clink Restaurant in HMP Brixton for their fundraising evening for Carney’s Community and the DM Thomas Foundation.
We had a brilliant evening as did everyone there, and we have no doubt not one person left with any room in their stomachs.
We will continue to work with HMP Brixton and the Park Lane Hilton providing catering apprenticeships to ex-offenders during and after their time in prison. Events such as this go a long way to supporting and spreading the message about these positive projects!
Skanska transforms our Community Centre
A huge thank you goes out to the volunteers at Skanska for completely transforming the outside of our community centre. After clearing away all the weeds they installed a number of flower boxes, hanging flowers and repainting the outside of the centre.
All of this was done in memory of Reggie. Reggie worked for Skanska and volunteered at Carney’s Community. Tragically she died last year, and we think she would have seen this as a fitting tribute, and would have loved the end result.
KLC Interior Design School Refurbishment Project
Last but not least, a big thank you to KLC interior design school who have come up with a complete refurbishment plan for Carney’s Community Centre. They are now looking for fundraising in order to pay for the refurbishment.
They have started the fundraising themselves by taking part in 5k run in Battersea park, so you can’t say they’re not leading from the front!
