Rory has gained experience working with a large range of young people in different settings over the last few years, including; schools, pupil referral units, community centers, and prisons.
After graduating from the University of Bristol with a first-class degree in Geography, Rory began his journey of supporting young people, by becoming a Teaching Assistant in an Inclusion Unit at a school in Oxford. This led him to train to become a qualified secondary school teacher at University College London the following year, in which he taught in a Pupil Referral Unit.
More recently he has been working for The Parasol Project, a charity that runs programs for disabled and non-disabled children and young adults.
In 2016, Rory co-founded a small charity at a community center in Brixton called Hero’s Journey – a discussion group for teenage boys. At the same time, he also began volunteering for the mentoring charity Trailblazers, in HM Prison Isis.
Now, as the Lead Youth Worker at Carney’s, Rory is driven to become the best youth worker he can be and enhance the charity’s mission to provide consistent and sustained support to disadvantaged and excluded young people.
After a five-year absence, Rory is also considering getting back into the boxing ring. For now, though, his body is being strained enough in our center’s yoga classes!
